| Welcome
to our Collection
Welcome to the Draco2
website, I hope you will find it both interesting and informative.
I plan to add new things continuously, including video footage
and new photographs, and basic information on the species that
I keep and plan to keep. All the news will be posted here on
the front page. Websites are always a work in progress even
when you think you have done everything, so hopefully I will
be able to keep it fresh and interesting for everyone visiting.
Although the primary library of knowledge is mine, my whole
family are involved in the keeping of reptiles in one way or
another, whether it’s scrubbing out dishes or feeding
snakes, and our youngest member being only 7 years old is already
a knowledgeable herpetologist, and very involved with the Leopard
Geckos and snakes.
A little about me
I have always been
in love with animals, and almost from the time I could stand
there was at the very least a dog or goldfish around. My real
love affair started with reptiles about 3 years ago, I have
always been in love with Dragons, and not being able to own
a Komodo Dragon, I acquired myself a pair of Bearded Dragons
Pogona Vitticeps, and from there on the love has grown, I now
own 17 Royal/Ball Pythons Python Regius of various morphs, 2
Corn Snakes Pantherophis Guttatus, 7 Crested Geckos Rhacodactylus
Ciliatus, 3 African Fat Tailed Geckos Hemitheconyx Caudicinctus,
3 Leopard Geckos Eublepharis Macularius and 2 Gehyra Marginata.
I am currently planning to add 2 more species of Lizards and
3 species of Geckos, which will be shown under ‘Up Coming
Projects’. In between caring for these I manage to find
the time to run a business with my husband Paul, attempt to
raise children and run a household, and care for the hairy species
of the family. Life is never dull, and there are always visitors
that want to view the critters and learn a little about them.
I am a firm believer
that you can never do too much research on your reptiles, whether
it’s your first or thirty first. I have found a couple
of forums that I have regularly used for information before
I’ve added something to my collection or after for comparing
notes. It’s a good place to start and give you the opportunity
to talk with other keepers and learn from them. It’s never
a good idea to impulse buy any reptile, it usually only makes
for problems for both or you. I have to confess however that
not being perfect I have been known to do this myself, but then
found that I was frantically worrying about whether I was doing
everything right at a time when I should have been enjoying
my new family member. I have added forums to my links page that
I actively use myself, and everything listed on there I have
good first hand experience of in one way or another and more
will be added as we go along.
There are no right
or wrong ways to keep your reptiles, and many breeders, hobbyists
and pet owners keep their animals differently, what works for
some doesn’t work for others, and the best way to gauge
this is by following your individual animals. As long as you
follow the basic rules in regards to security, safety and general
care conditions everything should be fine.
The best advice?
Before buying and bringing your reptile home, always find out
how it was kept by the person that you are purchasing it from,
what it was eating, how it was eating, it’s housing etc,
this will make for a far simpler and less stressful transition
period for both of you, and then you can get on with enjoying
each others company, in simple terms research, research and
more research.
I hope that you enjoy
your visit to my website, and you can contact me on the contacts
page if there is anything else that you would like to know,
I’ll answer all questions honestly and to the best of
my ability.
Best Regards
Claire
